The Socio-Economic Research Center (SERC) was established in 1972 as the research arm of Notre Dame University.  Through the years, SERC has engaged in research and other information generation activities useful for private agencies and  government in Central Mindanao and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) regions in program planning, formulation and  implementation.

In 1996, the University Research Center (URC) was formed to consolidate all research units in the university into one. The URC now comprise Socio-Economic  Research Center (SERC); Institutional Research Development (IRD); and DataBank (DB).


  • Socio-Economic Research Center (SERC) engages in collaboration/participatory action researches on issues of development, local and national, of private and public agencies/institutions in Central Mindanao and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao areas identified in the East Asean Growth Area (EAGA) polygon.

  • DataBank (DB).  Provides collection of facts and figures about  strategic regions of Mindanao, particularly the Autonomous    Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

  • Institutional Research and Development (IRD). Provides research assistance to University sectors.  It conducts institutional  researches  and relevant programs for institutional development.

URC’s mandate is to promote the advancement of knowledge and development in Central Mindanao and the ARMM areas through relevant, multi-disciplinary and  innovative  approaches on issues of change and development of peoples in this part of Mindanao.



  • Engage in collaboration and multi-  disciplinary researches on human development, representing a wide range of disciplines: anthropology, humanities, history, sociology, economics, peace     education, religion, political science, etc.

  • Provide professional and consultancy  services on research, project proposal  development, program  monitoring and evaluation, computerization and data analysis and other related services.

  • Promote dissemination of research findings to a wide variety of relevant audiences through fora, conferences and documentations.
